The Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which was only formed recently, has gotten its independence from the Russian Orthodox Church, severing historic ties and turning a new page in the book of Ukraine’s history.
Churches in Ukraine have been governed by Russians in Moscow for centuries.
The Patriarch signed into effect a decree known as a ”tomos”’, which recognized the independence of Ukraine’s church.
The decree will be brought to Ukraine on January 7th, the Orthodox Christmas.
